Vietnam motorbike tours Nha Trang

Can we do the “Top Gear” ride?

Yes you can, we work with you to give you a great experience of Vietnam, we promise you will have more fun see and learn more than Jeremy Clarkson.   ''Top Gear" ride is included in our new All Inclusive service.

What is the price and what are costs like in Vietnam?

Well of course every tour is different, but if you think about 100USD per person per day it won't be far out. This will include just about everything except your evening meals and lunch. Even then in Vietnam you can buy a decent lunch for 2 dollars and a beer for one!    We had 2 girls last year who had a week in Nha Trang and a 5 day tour and said it worked out cheaper than a fortnight in Spain. They made a wise choice.

NOTE:  Qatar now fly to HCMC from the UK for about 600 pounds return and there are some great bargain flights from Australia.

I drive a large displacement motorbike back home and am afraid that the Honda 125cc or Honda trail bike 125cc will not be up to the task. Can't we drive anything bigger?

Vietnamese traffic laws prohibited the use of motorbikes larger than 175cc until May 2007 after Vietnam was allowed into WTO. It will take sometime to have big bikes imported into Vietnam, but it's likely that nobody rents out these bikes as import tax is 90% and VAT is 10% (ie, a bike in VN costs twice as much as in your country!). The Honda 125cc or Honda 125cc Trail will not break the sound barrier but will easily carry two people down all of Vietnam's roads. They are light, balanced and fun to ride.

Can you arrange accommodation for us in Saigon and Nha Trang?

We can make reservations for you at any hotel and also organize a car to pick you up from the airport if you wish.  We usually recommend people stay at a particular hotel that we know and trust. Just let us know where you want to go and we'll give you details of the recommended hotels.

Of course, with the New All Inclusive tour we take care of everything and it's much cheaper than if you do it yourself.

Can  we book a tour with you from the street?

No, our drivers no longer roam the streets. We are trying to be a bit more professional and offer the customer a safer and better experience. Please read the warning in the Backpacker section. You can of course e-mail or ring us when you are in Nha Trang, but we offer no guarantees due to how busy we have become.

There are seven of us in one group, will we be all together?

We will split you in to 2 groups, one of 4 and one of 3 and stagger you by about half an hour throughout the day. We like one guide for a maximum of 4 people, so with your two groups you will have 2 guides. We also make many stops and we find groups of 4 are just about right; of course you will all be together at the end of each day's ride and you can interchange each day.

I hear the traffic is crazy in Vietnam. Is it safe?

Traffic in Nha Trang is chaotic to the uninitiated driver. For this reason we always use the easiest roads (even if they are longer) to get out of town. We can also arrange for riders to be dropped off at the city limits by taxi. Once out in the countryside, the level of traffic drops remarkably and on some roads it is possible to not pass a single vehicle for the whole day. That said, it must be emphasized that the conditions here are demanding and extreme defensive driving is imperative. All riders must be very careful of other traffic, animals, potholes and more serious road damage and fully understand that the purpose of the trip is not to ride bikes hard into the bends, but rather to trundle along nice and slow and enjoy the sites and sounds of rural Vietnam.

We are a group of four girls and all want drivers, is that ok?

No problem, in fact on most of our shorter tours [4 to 5 days ] it's mainly girls; the guys tend to want to go further and are more interested in the military sites.

What should I expect when I have an accident?

Vietnam can be a very strange country regarding how the accident is solved, just as the way people ride. The bigger vehicles usually pay i.e. car drivers pay motorcyclists, motorcyclists pay cyclists, etc. However, if you have an accident, first you have to talk with the other party (via our guide) to find out who has to pay and how much. If you don't agree with each other, then we call the police and they will do their job (usually takes time) and you have to stay in Vietnam until they have the official report. Vietnamese people usually expect foreigners to pay, even if they are in the right. Don't be surprised, and stay calm as our guide will help you to solve the situation.

If you purchased an insurance policy, we can contact the insurance company and ask them for instructions on your behalf. You will need to pay the cost of our phone calls (sometimes at international rates).

I'm traveling alone, is it possible to join any existing groups?

Where possible we try to link individuals together as long as they are of similar driving experience. The more advance warning you can give us, the better.

I would like to be a pillion on the back of my boyfriend, is that ok?

This is probably the most popular way of traveling; the guide ends up with all the luggage which gives you more freedom to enjoy.

How long do we ride each day?

It often varies day by day. In most cases we ride from morning to the late afternoon. We try to get on the road early to make the most of the day and we enjoy lengthy stops throughout the day. On longer tours we can accommodate a rest day from the saddle. Our bikes all have extra padding in the seats. Expect at least five hours driving time per day.

What's the minimum time to complete a good ride?

In order to get into the mountains and waterfalls, whilst completing a good loop from Nha Trang, we need a minimum of four days. In the vast majority of cases customers who have booked a 4 night tour always say they wished they had booked longer.

Where do the tours start from?

All tours start out from Nha Trang between 8-9 am unless we have made arrangements for you to be driven from HCMC to Nha Trang. Of course, if you wish for something different please mention when we plan your tour.

Can we start from  Nha Trang and finish in Hoi An or Mui Ne?

Yes and no. For a couple of travellers it would be OK, we then ship the bikes back by train or bus.  For a larger tour group we must finish in Nha Trang or have more guides. This is something you need to discuss with our tour manager Mr David.

Do you need a deposit?

We ask for a deposit of US$100 - US$500 depending on the tour in order to secure your booking(s). We will provide you with the necessary bank details to transfer this deposit once a ride has been agreed upon.

How do I pay you? Do you accept credit card payment?

Yes you can pay the deposit on line. But you pay the balance in cash on meeting your driver or a rep from our company.

Can you book internal flights for me?

Yes as long as you are doing a tour with us. We would like at least 4 weeks notice and if you wish to fly around Tet [Vietnamese New year around late January/early February] we need at least 10 weeks notice because most flights will be fully booked several months in advance.

How will I meet you in Nha Trang?

On  an All Inclusive tour we will be with you from the start. If you are a traveller or are a group just doing the tour, you will have been given a code and our phone number and we will visit your hotel where we will arrange a pre-departure briefing session to introduce to you the route (with maps) and the minority peoples with whom we'll come into contact. We'll also provide you with all the equipment, and cover any other outstanding issues and make sure you are happy with your driver/guide before you leave.

I'm concerned about the footwear situation; thinking about leaving walking boots at home to lighten the load, what do you recommend?

It's essential to have strong footwear for the tour to protect your feet whilst driving. Trekking shoes or leather boots are perfect. No driving in open-toed shoes. It is possible to buy a pair of boots (including big sizes) in Nha Trang for about US$15.

I have more questions and don't find the answers here...
